I’m off to Sweden tomorrow and I’ve been trying to find some music to make the journey a bit less painful. Standing in line three times for check-in, security and boarding doesn’t bring out the best in me, so I need something to keep my mood up.

Metronomy – The end of you too

The guitars and the melody played on top of them makes me think singer and composer Joseph Mount was somehow inspired by the music from the Nintendo classic Gun Smoke. Of course, it could also have been pretty much anything else but at least he’s the right generation for some NES inspired music.

I couldn’t find a good quality video for “The end of you too” but here’s the video for “Radio Lado” instead. It sounds a bit like 80′s Depeche Mode but right before the video shoot they had some horrible Playdo accident. Also, the strange robotic movement reminds me of Swedish artist Jakob Hellman’s – Vara vänner video from the early 90′s. Great song and amazing video!

Late of the pier – The bears are coming (From MFM)

Apparently Late of the Pier was formed as a reaction to “mediocre, complacent indie-schmindie bands who find a sound and stick to it”. Now, one thing I’ve always loved about electronic music is how it’s not so much about the lyrics or the melodies, but about the sound and how that sounds keeps updating itself every year or so. All it takes is a kid with a laptop and a few hours to spare to create that new sound, upload it, watch it spread on the mp3 blogs and change electronic music forever. In theory at least.

I hope Late of the Pier can keep their sound fresh and interesting but I wouldn’t mind listening to ten more songs just like “The bears are coming”. And although it probably won’t help keep me calm in a busy airport, thinking of bears while listening to the afro rhythm in the intro should keep me at least somewhat warm in Sweden.
